We’re the Flemings
We are Márcio and Fabiula, and we have three wonderful children: José (18), Pedro (12), and Tiago Elias (7). We live in Rio Branco, Acre, in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, where our faith in God and our family have always been the foundation of our lives.
Our journey with LGMD2C began when Pedro was just four years old. After months of searching for answers, he became the first person in our family to be diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type 2C (LGMD2C). At that exact moment, we were expecting our youngest son, Tiago. Soon after his birth, the genetic test confirmed what we feared: Tiago also had LGMD2C. He was diagnosed at just five months old.
José is 18 years old and is studying to enter medical school to become a geneticist, due to his siblings' situation.
We are working relentlessly to fundraise to support the gene therapy clinical trial to give Pedro and Tiago a chance to receive this life-changing treatment.

Tiago Elias is our youngest son. He is cheerful, talkative, and deeply devoted to his siblings. His biggest dream is to become a pastor one day. Every day, he prays not only for his own healing but also for a cure that will help all the children in the world who live with this disease. As a family, this is also our prayer. As a family, we are willing to fight and do whatever it takes to defeat this disease so that our children and other children around the world have the chance to grow.
Pedro is 12 years old. He is incredibly intelligent, kind, and has an entrepreneurial spirit. He dreams of becoming a successful businessman one day. He used to love running, playing soccer, and riding his bike. Today, the disease has robbed him of those simple joys of childhood. Sometimes he cries because he misses being able to do the things that every child should have the chance to do.
